You Say
Why do you constantly say things you don’t mean?
You say mental health is important
But then,
Why are students constantly pushed to their breaking point?
Cramming study sessions until three am,
Hands cramping after endless hours of writing
Wiping away heavy, stress-ridden tears
While laughing off their mental breakdowns,
As if their feelings must be disregarded
While they feel like
Their GPA is constantly questioning their self-worth
You say that we must be nice to one another,
But then,
Why do you continue to discriminate people?
You dissect them and reveal
Each of their imperfections,
Spreading articles and pictures
On what we must look like,
To be beautiful
On what we must do,
To be successful
Carelessly drowning them in oceans of judgments
Invalidating their self-worth to bring them down to your level of self-esteem
You say that we must be unique,
But then,
Why do you judge us for being different?
Once we take risks,
And step outside of the boxes you have trapped us in
It threatens you
And you react by ridiculing the ones
That dismantle themselves from your harsh mentality
And dare to be different
Well, society,
You say a lot of things
Do something about it.
