How do they do it?
How are people… normal?
Like-
I’m in class, right
And someone is talking to me
And they’re a nice person
I want to be friends with them
But it’s me.
I’m like
I’m like a spaz who can’t act normal for a single moment.
And so I’m over here saying weird shit cause I think it’s funny,
Or I think they’ll like me if I say it
Or -
Or something.
But it comes out all wrong
And I just don't get it.
How do people do it?
Why am I so weird?
I just -
It’s just that -

I don’t get it -
I stumble over every single word I say,
And yet I don’t stop talking
Please-
Please, for god’s sake,
Someone shut me up
Because we all know that I won’t do it on my own
And see,
Things are fine when I’m in a group.
Good, even
Maybe.
Maybe not.

It’s like
I can’t talk
Or -
Or I talk too much
But I just -
What am I supposed to do?

ReplyDeleteMy favorite device used was repetition because it helps convey your description of how you stumble over words and talk a lot.

I think the structure of the poem also fits the subject of the poem well, as you for the most part used short lines and the poem itself reflects how someone would talk in real life.
Very relateable. This is an excellent use of enjambment and repetition for a specific tone - it works very well.
