My Tao
By Angelina Lue
I am not one with the Tao.
I do not let my body become
supple as a newborn child’s.
I do not cleanse my inner vision
until I see nothing but the light.
I do not, am not the Tao.
I am one with chaos.
I let my body become brittle and dry,
stiff and hard.
I tighten my knots tighter
until I feel drained and dead.
I will never embrace the Tao
fully, completely.
But I can strive to become more
soft and supple, render and pliant.
And in the end that is all that matters.

I love how you have the reflection at the end stating that you will never fully embrace the Tao, but you can strive to be more and that is all that matters. It is so thoughtful how this realization differs from the rest of the poems that stress fully embracing the Tao!
ReplyDeleteI love that you start by talking about how you are not the Tao, and then talk about ways that you can become more in balance. The words flow really nicely and it is easy to see that you know and understand the Tao.
ReplyDeleteI really like the overall concept of the poem, that while you may not be one with the Tao, you constantly strive to become a better person. The way that you use the different adjectives that you do also contributes well to the poem.
