Feet on the Ground

Feet on the Ground
by Amanda Le

If you desire the pinnacle,
you will fall to the nadir.
If you draw a set path,
you will lose your way.

Reach for the stars,
but keep your feet on the ground.
For when he floats too high,
he forgets where he is.

Like the bubbling brooks,
be fluid and flexible.
For when the water is commanding,
it wreaks havoc on others.

Do not believe all you see.
The truth is within you,
and him,
and the Earth.
The truth is within the Tao.

  1. I really like the alliteration in the fourth stanza and just the set-up of your poem in general. The whole thing flows and connects together nicely. I like how you connected it all to the Tao at the end by saying "the truth is within the Tao".

  2. I like the ideas in your poem of maintaining balance and trusting the Tao. Also, the way you presented your poem and its poetic devices (repetition, personification, alliteration) really made it feel a lot more meaningful.

  3. I love your use of symbolism throughout the poem! You also used a lot of unique vocabulary which made it much more interesting!

  4. Hi Amanda!! :) I love your poem! Your word choices truly encompass all of your intelligence and imagination, and I really like the balance of different ideas (ex. "Reach for the stars, but keep your feet on the ground.") that you've incorporated into your writing. Good job!
