Monarch of One's Self

Sage Toomre Poetry

Monarch of One's Self

Inhale, exhale

We feel our breath rush through the lungs
Like a wind through our bodies,
Carrying away our stress

We must allow ourselves to be free,
From the knots and tangles in our minds,
From the pressures and deadlines of this world,

In our times of struggle,
In our times of panic and stress,
In our times of loneliness

We must remember that we are our own kings,
Worthy of our praise and attention,
Worthy of our love

For a king cannot govern without the support of the people,
And you cannot go on when you don’t support yourself

  1. Good use of poetic devices such as repetition and similes.

  2. I like the metaphor you used in the title. You poem has a lot of repetition, which makes the text flow in a very unique way.
