Stress and happiness collide in my mind,
Fighting over me.
They overwhelm me and I can’t seem to do anything.
Happiness wins over for just a moment,
Giving me wings,
Giving me motivation,
Sun shines over me.
But all at once that burst of positivity fades away,
Nervousness takes over,
It consumes me,
It turns that sun into a storm,
Too heavy for me to continue going on with my day,
Too strong of a force for me to lift it.
And yet most of the time they work together,
Rainbows form from the rain before and the sun ahead,
Making me appreciate the moments of freeness,
Making me appreciate the middle ground where I normally stand.
The balance between the dark and light,
The balance between night and day,
The place where both fire and water operate without hurting each other.
That’s where I see the rainbows.

I like how you compared the balance of stress and happiness as a battle. This is a good way of making the poem interesting.
ReplyDeleteI like your use of metaphors. The use of a storm as an episode of depression works well.
ReplyDeleteYour use of analogies is consistent and strong all the way through. I like that it connects to something that we are all familiar with, as it makes a clear image of what you are trying to convey.
