The Eternal Dance

I feel the dark and the light
The yin and the yang
Swirling endlessly inside me
Fighting for control
Neither ever wins, not really
For every crest, there is a trough
For every mountaintop of elation and joy, there is a deep ravine of hopelessness and loss
I can feel the sun and the moon
The day and the night
Spiraling into eternity
Endlessly they circle like water around a drain
Precariously perched on the brink of imbalance, of chaos
It is a fight as old as the universe itself

Except that it’s not.
It never has been a battle.
It is the rhythm and sway of the universe itself
The unified heartbeat of every living creature
No, it isn’t a battle.

It’s a dance.

  1. I really appreciate the balance of everything you are talking about. I like how you talk about how there is light, but at the same time, there is darkness. I also really appreciate the fact that you called it a "dance" because that shows a playful tone to the poem, and it shows that you can't have just one, but both at the same time. Great job!

  2. I love the language of your poem and how you connect to the Tao through including paradoxes and describing balance. Your last line is incredible and really gets at the heart of how we should view the Tao.
