The Flow of Water

The Flow of Water

The water flows all around us
Forwards, backwards, up and down
Its waves entrance us
Limitless, gentle, tranquil
Carrying people with its hands

The water rages all around us
Forwards, backwards, up and down
Its waves thrash violently against the sky
Neverending, angry, chaotic
Drowning people with its hands

Anger comes with the calm
Chaos comes with tranquility
When we fight this flow,
We are weak.
When we bend to it,
We are strong.

  1. I really like how you used water as a metaphor of the Yin and Yang. I completely agree that water can be very fun and enjoyable, but also very dangerous. Great job with your use of metaphors and greater meaning! Good job!

  2. I really like how you used water as your example for the balance between yin and yang. I think it is a very good example of how one thing isn't necessarily one or the other, but constantly changing its state. I also like how the first two stanzas are essentially mirror images of each other.

  3. Nice work making the analogy of water to the Tao. I totally see the connection to the large two-sidedness of water through your descriptive language like the Yin and Yang of the Tao and how just letting water take you where it flows is like succumbing to the Tao.

  4. I loved how you used water as an analogy for the Tao, as it simplified a very abstract concept. I also really enjoyed the themes of balance and paradoxes, and how we should follow the Tao or the flow of the universe.
